How You Can Get a Good Night's Sleep

In today's busy world it is difficult to wind down, quiet your mind and get a full night's sleep.  The average adult requires between 7 and 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep, yet most people would tell you that they get up several times in the night.  Each time a person awakens from their sleep they have to work hard to fall back into a deep sleep.  Most people would tell you that they only get between 5 and 6 hours of sleep, and that is not enough.  There are certain supplements that can help you to get a better night's sleep, including the following:

1. 5-Hydroxy-Tryptophan
This is the immediate nutritional precursor to serotonin, and it is converted into serotonin inside of the brain.  Your body can make 5-HTP but it needs tryptophan to manufacture it.

2. Magnesium
This supplement can calm the nervous system and also improve sleep by lessening the release of cortisol by the body.  Magnesium and calcium work together to assist muscles with contractions and then to put them into a state of relaxation.

3. Melatonin
This supplement is a naturally-occurring hormone that is absorbed directly into the body.  It is useful for treating ADHD as well as sleep adjustments and jet lag.  This supplement can be taken in tablet or liquid formulas.

4. L-theanine
This is a compound in green tea that relaxes the brain.  It is easily absorbed by the body in massive amounts and can access the barrier between blood and brain.  It can have an impact on amino acid levels which can not only affect neurotransmitters but also serotonin.  This supplement is commonly available in capsules or in tablets and can be used with other types of supplements to help induce sleep.

One of the worst things that people can do when they have a problem sleeping is to take sleeping pills.  Reliance on these types of medications can become addictive and create further problems.  The natural supplements listed here are not only safe but can be very effective.
